These people are often desperate and destitute. Hundreds are feared dead only this morning after a boat carrying 700 migrants sank off Lampedusa. This is a billion dollar industry, second only to drugs in terms of profitability for organised crime and yet little is being done to bring to justice those who actually run, and profit from. these operations.
