One of my favourite bits of writing my crime dictionary were the poison entries. Honestly, it’s such a great murder method right now. Apart from that, it’s also vital information for those of you who have taken to foraging in the wake of coronavirus.

The pictures below are of hemlock, abundantly available in our hedgerows and along towpaths and riverbanks. Hemlock is also known as poison parsley and it can be mistaken for the non-poisonous herb as well as celery (similar leaves).

It may look tasty but it is deadly poisonous and can kill within four hours. It smells musty and looks like this…please don’t become one of the many people each year who become very ill or even die through ingesting it.
