The other week I took part in the London heat of the international Kids’ Lit Quiz as part of the victorious Authors team. Sadly, we weren’t really allowed to win (competitive, us??) so the official victors were Bishops Stortford Junior College who beat 33 other teams to go through to the UK final. As well as the Authors team comprising of moi, Sally Nicholls, Beth Webb and Diane Hofmeyr, Mark Robson was the scorer while Echo Freer, Pauline Francis, Gareth Mottram busily marked papers. The lugubrious Wayne Mills, creator of the entire event, had flown in from New Zealand to be question master. If only we authors had brushed up on our knowledge of aliens and ducks I’m sure we’d have scored a perfect 100%…
